Just a little story...

The Web today is such an integral part of our lives, that it can be easy to forget it had a beginning. Birth; materialization; invention; genesis; you name it. All are synonyms of one word: Beginning. The Web had a beginning. Here's how it might've come about.

In the beginning, when The Programmer had just created the Web; nothing was with form or shape. Although it appeared to be cold, dark, dead to one's eyes, light or darkness did not yet exist. Neither did warmth or cold. Nor did life or death. There was no space, no waters, no mighty winds to sweep over it. It was a large abyss; an infinitely tiny and infinitely vast void of ... nothing.

It was not a universe. Not yet.

But at the very center, something was happening. Something different. Something strange. Something to break the infinite emptiness. What did it look like? It was invisible, for nothing had form or shape. But it was a thing. Something was there. What was this something? A singularity; the first thing that was something to exist. Something infinitely small in nothing infinitely big. It was odd; to have something within nothing.

And at the very center of this singularity, something else was happening. Something that looked like ... lines. Lines upon lines were being created; almost as if by miracle. It was a miracle. Programmer was creating lines upon lines within something within nothing. It was odd, for something to be born from nothing. What was inside these lines? Numbers. Letters. Brackets. Values. Tags. Energy. Physics. Matter. Something. Everything. A new universe; preparing to be born, with its laws of physics, energy and matter. These were the three primordial entities. And they had names. Html; the universal laws of physics. Http; the energy that links the distant corners of the universe. And Web browser; the key to all matter in the universe.

But outside, nothingness remained as nothingness. Everything that was something remained within the singularity while everything that was outside remained nothing; without shape or form. Then Programmer said:

"Let There Be Light"

And there was light. Programmer saw that the light was good. And from that moment forward, light and html and everything that was something sprang forth from that singularity to conquer nothingness and replace it with light. The universe opened its eyes. It took its first step. It read its first command. And then it spoke its first words:

Hello World!
